Enjoyed being the guest soloist in Weirsdale, Florida this past Sunday. Lovely little town with country roads stretching for miles around. This church was established in 1890, if I remember correctly. They rang a bell to begin the service, which added to the charm of this beautiful, well preserved church. As I am increasingly experiencing worship with different churches and various gatherings of believers, it just amazes me how the church continues to function as Christ called us to. Of course not every church is functioning to its full potential and there are many problems of different sorts in the church, but it still amazes me nonetheless. Jesus gave us the command to "go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 28:19) As the guest Pastor Jerry Phillips preached, we need to keep the work of the church on what Christ commanded and not be sidetracked by the preservation of the church itself as an imploding body of believers; turning in on self & self preservation, instead we need to be exploding with the good news out to others in our community and into all the ends of the earth. What a great functioning the body would have then. How we could glorify the Lord so much greater. That is my hope & prayer for the church. Don't we want to hear "well done good & faithful servant?"
